Why Dance, Why Not
Ballroom Dancing - The International Standards
Over the years, I've been very impressed with what Sir Ken Robinson
has to say about creativity in our schools. He explains the problem
with rote memorization, and seems to speak with the aversion that most
Americans have with the No Child Left Behind legislation (NCLB).
Some of
my friends have called the NCLB Legislation; the No Child Allowed to
Advance directive. I guess in some regards I do agree with that
observation. In one of Sir Ken Robinson's most famous TED Talk, he
suggests that we ought to be teaching dance in our schools, yes dance.
Ballroom Dancing describes partner dances, performed socially or competitively, with prescribed specific movements. It evokes a sense of mystique and elegance if performed socially and of energy and passion when performed competitively.
You Can Dance If You Want To
So, you want to be a dancer do you? Wow, there is so much you must
know to perform with the best, and only you will know if you are up for
the test. Maybe you could use some inspiration that might help you
achieve your dancing goals and dreams. If so, I'd sure like to recommend
a very good book to you, one that opened my eyes to the world of dance
like no other book has before .
The Ballet Bible
When I first purchased this book I thought that it would be
something fun to share with my students. I collect all things related
to dance, knicknacks, posters, DVDs...hence books.
How to Maintain Emotional Intelligence and Positive Thinking in the Ballet World
Author Deborah Vogel has written many books for the student ballet
dancer. Most of them have to do with anatomy, and solving the conflicts
between ballet's anatomical farfetchedness and the capabilities of the
human body. "Train Your Brain: A Teen's Guide To Well Being" goes
beyond tissue and bone into the wondrous creative realm every student
experiences, and sometimes loses direction in.
Ballroom Dancing - A Brief History
When you think of Ballroom dancing, you generally think of flowing
gowns and dark tuxedos. You also think of beautiful, willowy, women and
tall, dark, handsome men waltzing their way around the dance floor.

What a terrific book this is. It tells the story of the Russian
Tatar dancer Rudolf Nureyev. The man was purportedly born on a train,
rumbling down the trans Siberian railroad, and somehow that encapsulates
his wandering life. This is the best book I have read this year and yet
it can be bought for almost nothing.
Do you ever remember your folks or grandparents telling you; "it
takes two to tango," meaning that there must be more to the story and
more fault of the circumstance to spread around. Often, it was a
notification that they were not buying the total story and that the
blame ought to be spread around a little bit more. Well, the other day, I
got thrown out of McDonalds; why you ask?
" Oh sun, rise. Particles are dancing. I see headless, footless
spirits dancing with ecstasy. Some are dancing at the dome of the sky.
Come close. I'll tell you where they are going."
Michael Baldwin is a successful professional dancer who has it all -
a great career, a long-term relationship with his lover David, and a
brand new lake view house they built together on Lake Michigan. The
sudden death of his unbearable dance partner, sets into motion a series
of events that makes Michael question his settled life when he falls
head over heels for his new dance partner, Elizabeth. Dance of the
Heart explores the complications of love, lust, friendship and family -
illustrating that no matter who we are or who we love, attractions make
anyone a little crazy.
"Beyond Dancing" was written by 85 year old Anita Bloom Ornoff.
